Buddy Press Back End Lost to Fatal Error

I upgraded buddypress successfully and had it running. I decided to try the buddypress classifieds plugin previously installed but never worked right so I just left it be for now. With the new buddypress I activated the classified plugin and wound up not being able to access my backend.
I get a fatal error message Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_site_admin() in /home/xxxxxxxxxxx/public_html/solarpowerinstallation.org/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-classifieds/bp-classifieds.php on line 255 , Is there any way to get back to the plugins and deactivate the classified pluging, or some way of fixing it?

If you change the name of the plugin folder, through cpanel or by other means, wordpress will automatically deactivate the plugin and you should be able to get back to wordpress. I had the same thing happen with a theme.

To restore your WP admin dashboard, login to your WordPress install via FTP or cPanel and rename the “buddypress-classifieds” directory to something else like djoep recommended.

BuddyPress Classifieds is an older plugin that hasn’t been updated for BP 1.5.

For BP 1.5 info, you should read these articles:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/1-5-theme-compatibility/

Thanks greatly I changed the plugin name and it worked all is back to normal… only problem left to solve now is how to stop people from making groups and creating backlinks to sites like viagra.com and such… anyone?

== how to stop people from making groups ==
dashboard > BuddyPress > Settings > Restrict group creation to Site Admins? == Yes or No

my dashboard doesn’t have a path like your specifying.. mine has the following…
my account, dashboard, notifications, vist … each are a pull down menu with dashboard only having the following….. new post, manage posts, manage comments. so no path there for settings. There is a settings on my account but it is only for my personal settings. So any further idea as to why I don’t have a path like your specifying?

Mercime means inside the WordPress admin area (/wp-admin)

Yes. You asked “how to stop people from making groups and creating backlinks to sites like viagra.com” and that’s straight out-of-the-box solution for Site/Super Admins. Any other way would require creation of a plugin.
