BuddyPress accounts connected between sites

    Hello,

I’m looking to have BuddyPress installed both in a members-only site, and on a public site. But I’d like the accounts to be connected, so that users of the members-only site can login, comment and edit their profiles from the public site as well. The two sites are separate installs of WordPress on separate domains.

I do NOT want to use Multisite. That would be overkill for my situation and would cause problems.

Is there a way to have BuddyPress accounts linked between two sites, and sharing their data?

We would like to know how to do this as well.

@rhythmelody, in case you’re interested to vote up a request for this feature to be added to WPMU’s User Sync plugin, pls head over to their site here.

In the meantime, we have opted for a multisite ourselves.

@xmginc Amazing! I hadn’t heard of WPMU User Sync– it’s almost exactly what I need. Almost.

I don’t see the option to vote for your suggestion, though? Or to comment? Do you need to be a paying member to do it?

So close isn’t it? This and scheduling could be an answer to a multi BuddyPress network on separate servers… WPMU offers 30 day free membership to check it out. They require a credit card to signup, but well worth it for all their other tools.

@xmginc yep, so close. I just want users to get notifications and messages, and the same avatars and profile pictures network wide. That would expand the ability of buddypress tenfold.

Thanks for the info on WPMU. I hadn’t really heard of them, but this has my interest
