I’m new to BP and building a social experience for my users. I’m getting some frustrating emails from a few users wanting to upload their own image as their avatar. After hours of searching – I’m finding no real answers – except that buddypress doesn’t adequately address the issue.

Is this on the radar for 1.7? to allow users to upload their own avatar from their profile page? In the meantime – any suggestions?

You can upload avatars from profile page. profile > edit profile> change avatar.
Make sure you have in settings that your members can upload avatars.
dashboard > settings > discussion > Avatar display, thick it on.

Thanks. Maybe that’s why I’m losing my mind. I don’t have that option in my profile settings. I do have discussion set to allow Avatars – but no option on my user’s profile settings.

See if you have the following file

yoursite.com/members/member name/profile/edit/”>EditEdit< is the name that is written on the tab.
member is a members name

have you activated the xprofile component in the BP settings ?

Dashobard > Settings > BuddyPress > Components Tab

After digging even deeper… the theme developer had hidden that function on the style sheet. Seems that group avatars and member avatars share the same avatar size.

Now the avatar is all skewed because of the group avatar sizing. They share the same function. 🙁
