BuddyPress disables login, log out and menu

My website is running the latest version of WordPress (4.7) and the latest version of BuddyPress (2.7.4). When BuddyPress is deactivated everything works well, except for of course its features (Members and Groups). But these are very important to us. Thus I have to activate BP and when I do the sign in button on the top of the screen doesn’t work and you can only view the pages in the menu when logged in. You can however login by going to http://www.example.com/login but the button which should open a vertical bar on top op the screen doesn’t work. Instead it just adds to the hyperlink “/#4lct468lzl6o”. The menu also doesn’t work when BP is activated it just adds a weird String to the hyperlink when clicked on. How can I fix this?
    Thanks!

It may be problem / conflict with your theme or another plugin.
To confirm – try switching momentarily to a WP theme like 2015.

Ther only plugin activated is BP. I changed the theme but it still doesn’t work : it adds “?bp_pc_redir_to=%2Factivities” to the hyperlink when clicking on the main menu if you’re not logged in. When you are logged it does work.

It sounds like an issue with your menus.
BP does not change menus based on logged in / out status.

Somehow it does because the menu works when BP isn’t activated. When it is activated, you aren’t logged in and you click on a page in the menu the only thing that happens is it adds “?bp_pc_redir_to=%2PAGE” to the hyperlink. And if I type http://www.example.com/PageName it also changes PageName to “?bp_pc_redir_to=%2PageName”.
