    buddypress version: 2.5.1
    wordpress version: 4.4.2
    my site is http://api.viatomtech.com.cn/ (chinese)

I use WP-Mail-SMTP instead of mail() and it works fine.
But buddypress doesn’t send any emails, I tried many times for different email address. and I don’t know how to solve it.

    additional information:
when i try to register, it said activation has been sent.
and I can find the register request at the admin dash board

Looking at that plugin, it looks like the settings for SMTP will be getting applied, but the “From” Name and Email Address won’t be, and that could be why the emails are not being delivered for you.

I will try to remember to look at this discussion after work and write some code that might fix it for you.

I am having this issue also. I really want to check this plugin out and how can I if it won’t activate a user account?

@harleycodr Are you using the same plugin? WP-Mail-SMTP?

Nope. I just have Buddypress installed without any email plugins. Just using whatever WordPress uses as a standard! I’d love to get this working as I have an organization that I am proposing we convert to this as our members are very active on FaceBook and why not make our organization’s website interactive with BuddyPress.

@harleycodr Then please make your own discussion thread — the original poster in this one IS using WP-Mail-SMTP, and it’s bound to be a totally different problem/fix from whatever is affecting your site.

    Thank you.

@Paul Gibbs I deactive the plugin WP-SMTP-mail and setup the php-mail() function, then I can send emails automatically. But I still want to use the WP-SMTP-mail plugin, can you help me with this?

I need to install WP-SMTP-Mail on my development environment and investigate the issue there; I can’t guarantee when I’ll get to this. Maybe this next weekend.
