Buddypress Files Customization With Theme Built From Scratch.

Hello, I’m totally new to buddypress and I’m not the best when it comes to coding, far from it – I just finished building a wordpress theme from scratch with help of a tutorial, I downloaded buddypress and the template pack too but when I make changes in buddypress files in template pack it doesn’t appear on my site, why? The activities page, members, and registration page which buddypress automatically created works fine but even when I try editing their respective files in template pack it still doesn’t reflect on my site. Is there something I’m not doing right? I really do need help, and if possible codes that I need to add to make life easier for me. Thanks everyone.

Site is hosted locally so I can’t show a link to my website.

Take a look at the BuddyPress Template Hierarchy article. That should answer any questions you have.

Why did you download the template pack, can you tell us what led you to the template pack, that package is quite old and not relevant you shouldn’t need it if you simply allow the BP theme compatibility process to run and copy any files if you need to customize them to your theme as explained in the article linked to above.

We’d be interested to know what led you to the Template Pack so we can see if we have misleading guides and/or links to it that we can qualify to make things clearer.

Most of the time BP will use page.php since that template file exists in the majority of WordPress themes. However, if you wanted to style BuddyPress pages differently than a regular WordPress page, you could add a template file named buddypress.php to your theme’s directory and BP would use that template instead since that file is ahead of page.php in the hierarchy above.

Thank you all, I got it sorted. I copied the buddypress folder from bp-legacy and pasted into my theme folder, everything seems perfect now when I edit it. But I just noticed the members page displays users twice if I click on the following item and back to memebers, why is that? Thanks a lot every1.
