buddypress for a sports team

    @markusk

    finally got around having a look at buddypress for using it with our sports team (swimming) site..

    how i envision to use WP/BP:
    every member gets a login, is assigned to a group which reflect our sections (roughly swimmers/triathletes). each section should get it’s own “frontpage” as well as there should be a “global” one showing selected content from both. members should be able to contribute content (posts) to their section-page – and if it’s a good and relevant post admins should be able to elevate this content to the global frontpage. all the communitcations and relations-features of buddypress actually aren’t needed, but might make a nice addition of course..

    several questions cropping up, not sure if i just can’t see the solution, did something wrong or it’s not possible by design:

    – i’m using the normal WP, not MU. is that the reason why i can’t let users write articles/posts (from outside the wp-backend)? the only thing i see how users can contribute content from BP is via the activity updates.
    – if i used MU – would it be possible to elevate *selected* posts of a user to something like a “global”/frontpage blog?
    – is there a way to make name hooks (the @username) work in posts/articles – sitewide?

    thanks for any hints,
    markus.
