Buddypress Installation Error Message

I am receiving the following error message when trying to activate buddypress:

Error 500 – Internal server error
An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.

What am I doing wrong (other plugins activate just fine)??

WP/BP versions?

Is WP install working correctly before activating BuddyPress?

Did you install WP via fantastico? Start from scratch and manually upload WP files, create database and install. Those quickie WP installation scripts are not compatible with BP.
