Can I @everyone when I message?
-
I want to post to a group so EVERYONE in that group will get the alert (the little red dot and the “1” showing there is a message for them.
How can I get a message to everyone in my group?
Thanks,
JM

@group did not seem to do anything, but @mod resulted in an error message:
Warning: array_search() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in /homepages/14/d69811276/htdocs/clickandbuilds/CanvaKalaTest/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-crowdmentions-master/functions.php on line 195

Surely it should send to the group creator?
Ah ok, I set up a moderator and the error is gone

The creator is a group admin (group admins are slightly different to group moderators).
I’m still not getting any emails, but at least that error message indicates the plugin is working on some level in my setup.
I’m still not getting any emails
You won’t get emails. Only “web” notifications are issued. That’s intentional because for large websites which have many groups with 1,000s of members each, it would put too much strain on the website’s email server. In contrast, “web” notifications are handled with ease.
Ah, think we are getting somewhere. to the @mod message, my moderator got a blank notification, there’s no text in it. I’ll just try it again to be sure.
Yep, @mod sends a blank notification, there is a blue circle notification, when you hover over it the drop down in blank and you cannot select it, when you select the blue circle it takes you to the notification page and there is a blank notification that you cannot read.
I’m seeing the @group notifications now, but they too are blank
I’d like some sort of acknowledgement that the message has been sent, also definitely need a reminder of which group notification commands are available somewhere on the page. So that newbiws know such a thing exists.
No offense, but shouldn’t bug reports and suggestions be git > issues ?
[ I’m guilty too. ]Once the plugin passes initial testing, create an announcement thread.
oh sorry, I’m not on Git, I’ll joinup now
Thanks @venutius, if you could open a new issue on GitHub for each separate issue you find that will be great 🙂
Done
My @group sent an alert (red dot) to group members! Functioning.
Is it possible to post a message to a group (and all members) from my own (activity) stream? Like just type “@locomotives-group messagemessagemessage” and post it in my stream to do the same thing as your plugin does now when I post “@group messagemessagemessage” on the group wall?
It would be nice to reserve this ability only to mods if preferred.
Thanks for building this! Glad to do what little I can.
@friends is a very good idea. I mentioned a few other possibilities (outside of the group setting), as your mention mentioned.@jmunce no problem! I’ve submitted to the offical repo so hopefully it’ll be available in the Plugin Directory soon.
I’ll definitely be adding the @ friends command next. Let me know if you think of any more commands that might be useful 🙂
Oh and I forgot to answer:

This kind of thing, whilst a good idea, won’t be possible because you can have 2 groups with the same name. There’s no way of telling which group is the intended group.
One additional feature I was thinking about, a bit of a leap, would be that ability of the user to configure their own user group to send mentions to, a subset of their friends that they may wish to send shouts to.
Also, currently the notification message includes the text @group, I was wondering about removing this to enable to nicer formatting for the message.
Personally, I like the @group function, because it makes it easy for me to use it without error (error for me and code error). One way to make it a little nicer is to add it onto the end of your message like with Twitter.
