And why are these not marked
in the menu’s page, check the Screen Options at the top right of the page, BuddyPress is probably not selected.
They arn’t marked because they are mandatory, they are just listing them to let you know they are there.

I guess part of it is what options you choose to have at your site but yes with everything enabled there’s a lot of options and features, never mind the range of plugins that you will need in order to extend the site.
