Can not get Buddypress to work at all.

So I have a website that previously had BuddyPress installed. I had an issue with the edit tab on the profile page; when clicked it was taking me to a unused page from a classified ad plugin. I removed that page and then the edit tab would take you to the groups page.
I removed the classifieds plugin, uninstalled Buddypress, ran a database cleaner and removed all unused tables. Then reinstalled Buddypress… all the settings returned and I tried to go to the profile page and nothing…
At this point, I have given up. I need someone who can look into this much deeper than I have the knowhow to do.
