Can someone give me a tutorial on how to edit the BP Database on my site safely?

    Hi guys,
I can’t find decent, staright forward help on this.

I am having an issue which is just a part of BP I think. When you actually delete a forum topic in BP, it doesn’t seem to actually delete the forums title in the DB as if you rereate the same topic title again then you will find the URL has a 1 or a 2 etc after the topic title as if it were a duplicate.

I could do with going into the DB and removing the few topics I have recreated so that the URL’s don’t contain these copy numbers.

How do I get into the DB, how safe is it and once inside how do I find out where to delete the forum topic data?
    Thanks
    :)

Threads in the forums (which are powered by bbPress) are never actually deleted, they are marked as deleted.

    It’s a bbPress thing.

Ahh right, so will this not ever affect performance? Is there a way to delete them in the DB or can that not be done? I could do with the absolute url being the topic name that’s all. The current recreated ones have a 1 and 2 after there name in the url.
    Thanks.

Well, one question you can ask yourself is why you would create the same topic title over and over again?

haha, I know it seems bizarre. What actually happened is I changed the title of 2 topics but the url was still showing the old topic name even though the name displayed was correct on the actual page. That interferred with the move topic plugin so I deleted the topic and recreated the 2 again from scratch which has caused this issue.
I only need to delete these 2 topics, create them again so the url is just the topic name and i’ll never go into the DB again.

I’ve noticed this problem as well, unfortunately it’s a bbPress issue.
So unless bbPress is patched, this problem will persist.

A workaround is naming your topic title slightly differently.
