Hi there,

I’ve been playing around with the latest BuddyPress 1.7 beta2 and bbPress 2.3 RC1, with group forums.

When I go to a group forum that is public, I’m not able to post a topic or reply until I join that group first. Once I join that public group, then I can post – is this normal functionality?

It’s been a while since I’ve used group forums, but I remember BuddyPress group forums used to allow anyone to post to a public group without joining. Then once they’ve posted, it would auto-join them to that group, unless you had BP_DISABLE_AUTO_GROUP_JOIN in your bp-custom.php file. Has this functionality been changed in the latest BuddyPress?

Does the auto-join user to group when posting (BP_DISABLE_AUTO_GROUP_JOIN = false) still work in BuddyPress 1.7?

I’m having the same problem. I would like to be able to allow users to post in all public groups without having to join them first. Was this topic ever solved?

I’m still having this problem unfortunately. But now I’m not so sure if it’s because of BuddyPress or bbPress.

I’ve had to revert back to bbPress 2.2.4 with BuddyPress 1.7, and use bbPress site-wide forums as pseudo BuddyPress group forums. I’ll just keep this setup for the time being until there’s a fix, then I’ll update to the latest version of bbPress.
