We are using Buddy Press version 2.2.0 and can not accept friend requests. Once a notification is received from a friend request. There are two options provided Accept or Reject the request. When we click on Request nothing happens. Any suggestions why this in no longer working?

Sorry about the lack of information. See the updated information:

We are currently hosting on Amazon’s cloud running Amazon Web Services. Our PhP version is 5.4.31. Using the latest version of the Sweet Date theme. We have four major plugins installed. BuddyPress 2.2.0., bbPress 2.5.4, s2Member Framework Version 150203 + s2Member Pro v150203 and Event Espresso 4.6.6.p. The other plugin do not control permissions, groups our user classifications.

We are not sure exactly when this problem occurred because we were not using the friend request feature. However we did test this successfully in the past but are not sure of the plugin versions.

The changes we recently made were the following:
We had Buddy Press, s2Member and Event Espresso installed with the latest versions. We then installed latest version of bbPress. We created users groups and assigned the appropriate permission of user to subscribe and receive invites to join the group. We learned that members can not join a group unless they are friends with an individual already in a particular group.

When we send a friend request to a user that person receives the request. They are able to see the notification in their profile under Friends-Pending Request. At this point everything looks good. The user can see the requester image and can the ability to clink Accept Button or Reject Button. When either of the buttons are clicked nothing happens. We waited for exactly 2 minutes and just refreshed the page. We get the same actions if the Reject Button is selected also. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

    thank you for your details.
But sorry to tell now that it would be a bit difficult to isolate what’s not working correctly on your site.

Your PHP version is recent, so we’ll have to check the rest first. Note i’m not saying it won’t be the culprit.

You’re using a commercial theme and i can’t help you about it. This is the responsability of the vendor and you have support accordingly to the licence.

The other point to check is S2 Member framework.

I hope for you that you have a development install, so you can test several things. Firstly a WP/BP install, with one of the twenty theme enabled and without any plugins.

This base config should work correctly. If it’s ok, you enable Sweet Date. And if you discover some issue at this stage, you have to ask on the theme support.

If it’s ok, you can enable your plugins one by one untill you isolate the culprit.

This must be done scrupulously after each plugin activation, specially for the friend request step.

    That’s all so far.

I just tested everything in our development environment. The friend requests works fine with the Twenty Fifteen Theme. I will contact the developer of the SweetDate Theme and will post any finding later. Thanks For your assistance danbp.

After removing BuddyPress and bbPress then disabling all of the plugins on the website. I reinstalled BuddyPress and bbPress. Then activated the plugins one by one. Now BuddyPress works better (partially works). I can now send Friendship Requests. However, when a person receives the request they can not ACCEPT the request. Are there any features that I should be aware of in BuddyPress that should be reset.

Also I noticed that BuddyPress and bbPress still referenced old messages and group names after i reinstalled the plugins. My thoughts would be to start over from the beginning. With clean install and not reference to previous data. I am not sure how to modify anything in the database or if this can all be done outside the database. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
