Can’t active BP

I’m running WP 3.1 with BP 1.2.8. On my webhost, I have WP in a subdirectory, with a domain name pointing directly to that subdirectory. When I active BP, the entire WP site returns Server 500 errors. If I disable the plugin via the database, the site works again.

I’ve enabled Permalinks in WP, and ensured that mod_rewrite is working. Any other suggestions?

I’m new to WP and BP, but not to web design.

There’s probably something in your web server’s error log with an error message which would probably tell you what’s happening. Who is your host? Bluehost?

Powweb is my host. I don’t have access to the server logs.

I have this problem as well. I installed wordpress 3.1 on my 1and1.com host and am trying to add BP 1.2.8.

    (uiserver) > uname -mrsn
    Linux infong576 2.6.28.8-20100125a-iscsi-ntacker-fasync-mremap-grsec i686

    From my debug.log:

17-Mar-2011 19:19:32] PHP Notice: Undefined variable: wpdb in /homepages/staging/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-wpabstraction.php on line 13
