[Resolved] Can't change register.php anymore

    Hi!

    I have a strange problem.

I have the latest version of WordPress and Buddypress and I have built a child theme for the default BP theme. I have successfully changed a lot (both text and markup) in register.php and activate.php. The thing is that my recent changes don’t seem to stick.

I’ve tried deleting the files, deleting the whole registration directory and I’ve tried renaming the files but I still see my old versions of the files. If I activate the default BP theme, I see the register.php and activate.php from that theme. I have read similar posts on this forum, but it hasn’t helped me to find a solution.

I can change the other files in my child theme.
I have deactivated all the plugins, but that didn’t help.

I have run out of ideas.. I’m not sure when this problem occured but at least a few weeks ago.

    Help would be most appriciated.

    /Lisa

    – What kind of changes did you make? Styles or markups?
    – Did you follow the directory structure of the parent BP Default theme in your child theme? i.e, activate.php and register.php should be in wp-content/themes/YOURCHILDTHEME/registration/

    Thanks for answering.

Nothing happens when I change the markup, plain text or even delete the files. The styles (in styles.css) and all other files, I can change and the changes do show up.

And yes, the register.php and the activate.php are located in the “registration” folder which is in my child theme directory.

@mstell4hotmailcom where are you hosted? Possible server cache issue? Have you cleared cache?

    Hi again,

I’m still having problem updating activate.php and register.php. I think it occured when I moved the site from one host to another.

    @mercime
Our current host cashes the sites for five minutes which makes it unlikely that the problem lies there, since we’ve had this problem for a few months. Also it seems that it only concerns the register and activate files.

It seems like the site somehow shows the wrong files. But I don’t know how that would be possible, where would those files be located? Can there be a URL that I need to change somewhere, since we’ve change both hosts and bought a domain address for the site?

    Thanks,
    Lisa

@mstell4hotmailcom let’s go over the points again just to be clear
    – Are you still using your BP Default Child theme? Or a different theme now?
    – If still on BP Default Child theme, did you create a folder named registration in your Child Theme folder and copied over the activate.php and register.php files which you revised into that registration folder?

@mercime Yes, I’m still using the bp default theme.

And yes, I have a folder namned registration in my child theme where I put these files.

The most recent tests I did:

    Made changes in register.php.
Uploaded the file with filezilla ftp client.
Downloaded the file to a temp folder and I can see the changes in the file.
Waited (more than) 15 minutes (to be sure that it’s not cashed) and still nothing shows up on the web site.

I also deactivated my child theme and activated the bp default theme. Then I made changes in register.php in the bp default theme and the changes show up on the site. I activated my child theme and there’s som old version showing, different from the original and different from the one in my child theme.

I found the problem, there was an older version of the file in my child theme directory which overrode the file in the registration folder.

    Thanks for your time, @mercime.
