– can't create forums in groups…

I am using BuddyPress 1.7.3 and I can’t create forums in my groups. I was trying to use BuddyPress version 1.8.1 but it wouldn’t even let me create forums at all.
I would be very grateful for some assistance.
When I attempt to create a forum, it goes to a blank URL page.
