Challenge loading photo to be Group Avatar

WP version 4.0, BP version 2.1.1, http://www.leaderbridge.net
We are trying to load images to represent the Groups and after we hit “Crop Image” we get error message “There was an error saving the group profile photo, please try uploading again.” or “There was a problem cropping the group profile photo.”
Image we are trying to use is 160×160 px, 7.2 KB. Image name is LBE_logo_sq_160.jpg. We have tried other photos/images, but have the same result.
Other avatars associated with user profiles work. Other images within the site work fine.
