    @rossagrant

    I’ve used comet chat on socialgo before. How easy is it to install on a buddypress site and can you install only the sections you want to?
    I wouldn’t want the games for example?

    If this could simply be installed as a plugin it will no doubt do very well. Does it fully integrate with members too?
    Thanks.

    Hi rossagrant! Here are the answers to your queries:

    => How easy is it to install on a buddypress site and can you install only the sections you want to? I wouldn’t want the games for example?

    Installation is extremely simple and should take you only a few minutes. You can have a look at: http://www.cometchat.com/support/page/documentation?record=25

    You can easily customize CometChat to remove modules and plugins like games.

    => If this could simply be installed as a plugin it will no doubt do very well. Does it fully integrate with members too?

    Yes, CometChat automatically pulls the members list and their friends too!

    Thanks for the replies that looks great. So can it be set to enable chat to ANYONE or line or just have it as ‘friends only’ chat?

    Hahaha, no chance of any special promotions on the price of cometchat whilst it’s still new to buddypress? I really need to get paid! :)

    let see, I wish soon some developer will make it free of cost. becoz, thats opensource and we all want such features from BP too. wish BP will concern and develop this features for BP lovers :-)

    @rossagrant

    @sakib I agree, this is needed in the BP community, just not at $129. $50 yes but $129 might be pushing it. What do other people think? Anyone going for this?

    My currency calculator says that’s over £85 GBP. I doubt most people building start-up sites as we are, with little or no income, will go anywhere near such a service. Anyway, there are free php chat scripts which work well, and no doubt WP plugins as wrappers too.

    @rossagrant

    @lincme cometchat is a nice product that integrates really well with BP though.

    I agree at £85 it’s overpriced for us little start ups but at £30 I’d take a punt on it.
    $49 for the pro version and they would sell a lot of these.

    This looks great @cometchat! Could you please tell me something about the scalabity of the product? How much resources does it take, and are there site who have it set up to deal with thousands of users? Thanks in advance :)

    Each person buy chat plugin: it will have cometchat brand on it AND cometchat ads running? any version is only for single domain? audio/video chat plugin is added $250? WOW, did I understand correctly?

    @cometchat Do all of the packages have buddypress support on that page? Right now I have the skysa bar which is free so its not as good but I got it intergraded with my site except for the avatar and it dose not have friend support plus Im using there api which means no support as it is alter with the extra code. Im kinda leading towards the $49 but its branded but with skysa it cost me 99 a yr to not have branding. Which I dont plan to upgraded to. i just cant see how someone can pay and still have a branding? Then pay like 70 to remove it? This seems to be more priced to people who have a large site. Now if I had like 300 user I can see buying this but with only 3 of us who dont even use the bar we have now and the countless spam account joining everyday I think I will stick with skype in tell I get a large group of 300. So for now its in my book marks.

    All editions support BuddyPress. As for scalability, CometChat powers the entire SocialGo network (GoIM chat bar) with over 100,000 networks!

    Is this software based on true Comet technology or is it simply using the same name without actually using the actual Comet technology?

    I ask because true Comet technology requires a server-side listener service, which isn’t possible with 99% of all hosting companies out there.

    r-a-y

    @r-a-y

    It doesn’t use Comet technology… it’s just a name.

    We’ll we got it working (actually technical support got it working – nice guys too)

    Now we haven’t stress tested it yet, but its a very nice chat implementation, but what really sealed the deal for us (we had been trying arrow chat) was the cool little modules for page translations and facebook/twitter.

    We’ll worth a look and well worth $129

    Hooks nicely into our buddypress and only can be used by logged in users so im hoping that will help keep bandwidth hammering down a little bit.

    If it proves to be a sticky as i hope it will it will be a great investment.

    @Cometchat Your sales/support chatter on cometchat.com was helpful and very confident in his/her questions.

    Also, I wanted to commend you for creating a post in the Buddypress site and responding. There are some (not many) plugin/addon authors that don’t keep in touch with users before/after a purchase so it’s a good gesture to be here as a resource.

    Is a there a free self hosted chat option available which allows only friends to chat in buddypress?

    and does the chat feature in WPS fullfill this requirement?
