Cover photo working on media page only.

rather a bummer…
i’m running wordpress 4.7, buddypress 2.7.4.
my theme is klean, though the same issue exists with
twenty seventeen theme.any cover photo plugin i’ve tried does not help
does this say anything to anyone?
