Create Avatar Link Not Showing

I’m running a company intranet using buddypress. We launched and users could update their avatar. In the last day or so, the avatar function has disappeared and only ‘Update profile pic’ remains. Does anyone have a clue where to start trouble shooting this? I didn’t add any plugins and everything is up to date. Latest wordpress, etc.
