Create Competitions using BuddyPress

    Hello BuddyPress friends,

I need your help brainstorming a little here. I want to create a site that allows special users to create competitions, where normal users can:
    a) send their proposals
    b) have their own portfolio displayed in their profile.

I want to create something similar to 99designs or “Freelancer.com’ Competitions.

After a day of googling around I’ve been thinking in integrating S2Member/BuddyPress/WooCommerce &/or Gravity forms, but I’m very new to WP/BuddyPress development and I’m a bit worried of re-inventing the wheel or doing a squared wheel.

Does anyone know examples of competition sites running under BuddyPress?
How would you create a site like this? (Which plugins would you use, what would need to be custom made, etc).

Thanks a lot in advance :).

    Best,
    Vicente

    Hi @vicente-vial

The link you’ve provided to 99designs seems to be broken?

I’m not aware of such a WP / BP site.

The plugins you mention re integration should provide a structure for you to get most of the way [ maybe all the way ] tp your goal.
It will be a lot of work.

I suggest you set up a dev site and start experimenting.
Get a basic payments flow working first.
If you’re not a developer, you’ll need one at some point.

    @shanebp Thanks!

Now I’m considering in mixing a “job board theme” (example) with WooCommerce. Usually this kind of themes come with custom made or external plugins that allow them to screen resumes.

My concern then would be “how to” create a way of allowing the special user to screen and vote the candidates just like in this contest sites. I found several contest/competition plugins, but all of them are oriented to social voting. I just need that the special user can vote and decide the winner.

Thanks for the tips on the jobs board :).

    Best,
    Vicente

I don’t know if you did it yet, but there’s a couple of themes from sitemile that can accomplish that, specially this one http://onlinedemo.sitemile.com/?theme=project

I’ve used that with buddypress in a devsite and it worked perfectly!

The only problem is that they don’t have a free version for trial, so you’ll have to buy the theme in order to test.

    Hope it helps!
