Create two Pages widgets

  • I wanted to display the Pages widget on both the homepage and on the blog sidebar. Arg, it’s a single instance widget, so I can’t. I can either have it on one of my homepage columns or my blog, but not both.

So I copied all the WordPress core functions, renamed them, and packaged it as a plugin. Now I have one widget Pages and one called Pages2. The code is here for anyone who wants it:

To work properly the widgets need to be in separate sidebars. The reason is that if you put the two widgets in the same sidebar, they’ll both get the same options. It would be fairly trivial to change that, but this works for me, so that’s as far as I’ve taken it. :-)
