ok I created a child theme that has a page template for a widgetized home page.

    Download here: http://bit.ly/aBgYo4

    To install:

Unzip and upload bp-widget folder to your WP themes folder and activate.

Create a new page called Home choose Buddypress Widget Theme as the page template.

Then in side bar settings >> reading choose the home page you created as the static front page.

Go to widgets and add widgets to the columns

This is the exact default BP 1.2 theme with a custom page and functions to allow a widgetized page.

    report bugs below

As soon as I get a chance I’ll fix the column issue but you need to give me more info on what browser and version you are using.

@modemlooper Thanks for answering, the column height issue seems to happen on all modern browsers and OS. Don’t you have this problem ?

I use latest Firefox under Ubuntu and a friend tested on IE 7 and 8 under Windows XP.

Sorry to bother @modemlooper, I was just wondering if you had time to have a look at the second column cut problem with Thin Wide Thin template ?

    Thanks :-)

Yes, waiting on the next BP release and then I’ll update the theme in the WP repo. Right now, child themes are getting rejected becasuse the bp-default theme is not meeting WP theme standards.

Hi @modemlooper, here comes a new BP release. Is there any good news in it which would help to get our problem fixed ? What about the bp-default theme, any improvements ? Thanks.

I have noticed some stuff has gone from bp 1.2.7 default theme, I hope it does not make the column issue harder to fix. Thanks @modemlooper for letting us know when you will manage to update themes.

    Hi modemlooper.
The link for your widgitised from page has gone, but it is almost. 2 years old.
I want to have a from page widget area so I can put a video on the front page.
Any chance you can let me have the document or instructions to do this?
    Many thanks.
