Directory from profile field

I have an optional profile field – Company Name that users can fill in their profiles. I want to auto generate a company directory from this.
Secondly, once the above is achieved, is there another way to group by another profile field – industry?
Thirdly, is there a way to automatically list the users that have the same entry for this field in their profiles under the original field in the directory?
I would be grateful for any help that can get me started on this project. I am not very good at original programming but I understand some coding so I can troubleshoot.& make modifications if I am pointed to the right resources.
