Disabled groups

Hi there. My AutoGroupJoin plugin is telling me that Groups are disabled on my site and that I need to change this setting in the component setup… but when I go there the box for Groups is ticked. Groups I’ve created previously still exist but plugins like Group Organiser don’t see them. I am able to add more (and the new ones are picked up) but I still can’t manage user membership to these groups from the admin panel. Any suggestions?
