Disabling Groups, using global bbPress forum anyway

  • As I’m creating a new BP site, I want to create a single, global forums with sub-forums: the typical forum experience. I don’t have any use for Groups and am disabling them, but I still need to integrate bbPress. I’ve read topics on the matter (http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/is-this-the-way-forums-are-supposed-to-work) and I understand the concept, it just doesn’t fit the needs of my site.

Preferably, I’d like an integrated option for a Global Forum instead of the group-based model, especially with things like most recent forum posts in the user profiles, but that might not be an option. I’m running the most recent builds of WPMU, BP, and a standalone bbPress.

At the very least, is there a way to sync logins with the software?
