Disabling Sitewide Notifications

In order fix an issue regarding cropping avatar images I recently upgraded to BP 1.7. Now at the top of my webpage, when logged in is an obnoxious and OLD sitewide notification. I do not know how to disable this function as it is not something that I want to or need to have on this site. Here is my info:

    BuddyPress: 1.7
    WordPress: 3.5.1
    BBPress: 2.3

Here is a link to a screenshot of what I am referring to: http://bit.ly/17aVWzu

Please let me know how to get rid of this.

It looks with the notification when we send a message to everyone…

When you click “close”, is it still appearing?

I understand what it is. I don’t want it to appear there EVER. Yes, it goes away when you click “Close.” But that is not a solution. I am not going to tell my client and members that they have to click “Close” on something that I don’t want to appear there in the first place.

I would have thought you can disable site wide notifications via settings. It seems you can’t. I agree with you, not sure how useful/appropriate this feature is for professional sites.

@twistyfarmy – To disable notices, on your profile, navigate to “Messages > Notices” and disable them that way.

BP 1.7 introduced universal theme compatibility, but it appears your theme already has BP support, but did not tell BP this.  This is a possible reason why you see the sitewide notice at the top.

Follow the recommendation in this article:
BP Theme Authors: make sure your theme registers 'buddypress' support
