does buddypress has ability to bear users in a large scale of 1 million?

    i am new in buddypress for seeking a solution to build a social site, i heard a certain friend in facebook’s wordpress group, he said wordpress is not a good solution to build a large scale’s social network, it has limitation in its core structure, if i want to build a 5 million based social site, buddy is a good solution for me ?

    What was the limitation that your friend was referring to?

    My friend said under WP MU structure to build a social site, one user/site needs 9 tables in DB, if 10 thousands user/sites , it will generate 90017 tables (including default 17 tables), DB will bear huge burden in its I/O, 10 thousands members just are counted a small scale site, i hope to find a social solution to build a social site of millions membership unit, was his mention right or else ?

    have you used WordPress.com? That uses WP MU and has more than 10,000 users. In fact, I’d guess it easily has over 1 million users.

    Perhaps somebody here already runs a BP or MU site which has lots of users and could give you some feedback?

    yeah , i need a real witness to show me a large computing capability for at least 100 thousands members on a WP buddypress site, but is it possible ?
