Error message: ”This group does not have a forum setup yet” on most of my groups
-
Hello,
I set up about 150 groups a few months ago, and just recently discovered that when I try to post in any of them, I get the following error message: “This group does not have a forum setup yet”.
I’ve done a bunch of debugging, with no real luck.
I’m using BP v1.5.5 with WP v3.4.2. I have a few custom plugins that prevent me from upgrading to BP 1.6.1. I actually tried that, but it caused more errors, so until I can work through that I reinstalled 1.5.5.
Here’s what I’ve tried.
I checked if the “enable discussion forum” checkbox is checked in the problem forums, and it is.
I unchecked, saved, and then rechecked the box both from the admin panel, and from the forum, with no change.
I can see the 150+ groups in the wp_bp_groups table in the database, but only about 30 entries in the wp_bb_forums table.
I tried creating a manual entry in the wp_bb_forums table for one of the groups, with no luck.
I can create a new group at this point, and the forums work. I tried this both from the admin panel, and from the group hierarchy, and both work.
I’d really prefer not to have to re-enter 150 groups, as it’s hours of manual work. But I’m running out of ideas. I’d love to know why a few of the oldest groups work (I assume they were created through the forum, not from the admin panel, someone else entered them) but all the groups I created back in June don’t work.
Any ideas?

What have you changed on your site since June?
I updated the theme from Streamline v1 to v2.0. I’ve updated a few plugins as well. I’d have to go back through my notes for all the changes.
But what I don’t understand is that it doesn’t look like the group forums were ever created, even though I had the box checked. And unchecking and rechecking the forums box does nothing. Are they all corrupt?
I also noticed that while debugging this that a bunch of blank groups were created. I’ll try that again and get a screenshot.
I’m hoping for a workaround that involves rebuilding the database, not re-entering 200 groups manually.
thanks!
== But what I don’t understand is that it doesn’t look like the group forums were ever created, even though I had the box checked. ==
Check your database if the 7 bbp_ tables were created https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#bbpress-forums-tables-in-database
In addition, basic troubleshooting would involve changing to bp-default theme and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress.
All 7 tables are there.
@mercine, I don’t understand how disabling all the other plugins is going to suddenly create 170 forum entries in wp_bb_forums when there are none now.
At this point I’m not interested in figuring out why it happened, but how to fix it without having to re-enter all 200 groups.
Here’s what I think is a bug. If I go into one of the groups as admin, and deselect the option to create a forum, then save it, it creates a blank entry in the table wp_bp_groups with zero’s in each entry, including the time stamp. The only data is the record number, which in this case was 347.
Nobody has any suggestions on how to rebuild the database without doing it manually?
I’m having the same problem [can’t create a new topic get the error message: error message: ”This group does not have a forum setup yet” with a much simpler and more up to date set up. BP1.6.1. 4 groups. Have disabled all plugins but BuddyPress and bbPress and changed to default theme. Will post a new thread.
