extending user sign up with geodirectory integration

Hi I spoke with geodirectory and my request is out of their wheelhouse, but as buddypress is an add-on of theirs and what I use to have users sign up for their directory, I’m wondering if I can achieve what I need with extending buddypress.

Is it possible to create separate roles for a user when they sign up/register using geodirectory? Users fill in a radio field that asks if it’s a personal or business account. But they both get signed up as the same roles based on the generic wordpress settings.

I want to be able to automatically have a user become a certain role based on if they check business or personal and then hide/show certain things if a user is a business vs if they are personal, but as of now all users are on the same level when they sign up for the directory.

Your task can be accomplished, if you can write BP code.

Sounds like you will need to hire a developer.
You can create a listing here.

Instead of custom roles, you may want your developer to create member types.

Wouldn’t checking this feature called user groups maybe achieve what I need? But it would still be up to the user to join this group? The definition is allow your users to organize themselves into specific public, private or hidden sections with separate activity streams and member listings.
