Forums not sending email on new topic

I am stumped – I am not getting any emails to notify of new topics to users subscribed to forums or topics.

I get the email notification to admin that the new topic has been posted, but no email to a user who is subscribed to the forum.

    Versions: WP 4.2.2 BP 2.3.1 bbPress 2.5.7

I have disabled all plugins except: BuddyPress, bbPress & Email log, which records the email to admin but no other.

If I send a private message to the test user, I DO get the email notification, so bbPress can get the email through, when it wants to. I am thus ruling out an email routing/delivery problem.

I confirm that the test user is subscribed to the test forum.

I have run the Forum tool to repair all the relationships etc.

I thought the test user should get an email notification when a new topic is posted to a subscribed forum, without any additional plugins.

Am I missing something? Help will be much appreciated.

OK – in the absence of anyone enlightening me, I set up a test site with just WP, BuddyPress and bbPress, together with the plugin ’email log’. I determined that emails are not sent by bbPress.

I have now installed BuddyPress Forum Notifier, which seems to do the job.

I am presently experimenting with cron to ensure the batching of comments works reliably.
