Friend Connections and Groups Not Working

Running WordPress 3.4.2 with BuddyPress 1.6.1 and HostGator.
Basically when I send a friend invite the recipient receives the notification, however, when he accepts the request it says accepted and nothing happens. The request returns to pending and stays that way no matter what except when I disable friend connections.
Also when I request to join a group there is not a notification sent to the Admin of the group.
We had BuddyPress working on a previous theme, and working with the current one yesterday. I’m very confused as to what the problem is.
