Front End Blog Posting
minimizing the backend usage is great… but is more into WordPress … a quickpost page could be great, someone released a version for 1.1…
Looking for something like P2 theme?
There’s already a plugin for this purpose.
I’m working on integrating P2 into the Group Blog plugin here.
BTW, couldn’t get Posthaste to work. P2 looks like the way to go, with Automattic behind it.
I was using Posthaste on my 1.1.3 install and had it working perfectly for my groupblogs. I took my buddypress theme and removed home.php and used that for the group blog theme and I did what was in this link to remove it from automatically adding itself to the loop and instead I just placed the code to place the form at the top of my theme right inside the content container and it worked perfectly. You were able to post articles to that blog from the top of the page and using viper’s video quicktags, you could embed videos in there as well. Here’s the link that gave me the code to manually place the posthaste form instead of having it auto placed.
I’d recommend using the Gravity Forms plugin. You can set it up to add posts to the site through a front end form. Beautiful interface. R.
These ideas are meant for suggestions to the core functionality in future versions of BP. Thats why it’s posted in the ideas forum.
nice suggestions for the mean time
This is a good idea, perhaps an Ajax popup or a standard form so that the functionality is like Facebook with no backend. Unfortunately sites like Myspace and Facebook have kind of set the standard that is expected for useability for end users. Some of my members find the WP backend a bit too technical and complex, some couldn’t even post because they didnt know where to start.
I am going to start another thread suggesting this to see what everyone thinks. Even though Buddypress is giving me some headaches I am starting to see its future potential especially for micro communities.
+1 for having this in Core.
the best would be to have the Admin-option to select if you want backend or frontend Blog-posting for User-Blogs.
Interesting idea about the gravity forms plugin. Anyone done this?
I’ve used todo mini forms.
Though my request is a less technical blog posting form with the ability to set draft, edit and post from front in. Basically the quick press from back end placed on your profile.
Not a full fledged blogging software just an simple blogging tool.
I got posthaste working but i want something abit more advanced with the same edit box the backend offers so people can upload photos etc!
ive got BP 1.2 and wordpress 2.9
no issues with installation of posthaste
I’ve used Gravity Forms for front end user posting, but no integrated WYSIWYG, but there is a third party solution. I’ll check post haste. Also, I don’t want more than one blog, but it should be easy to auto-tag “member” posts and assign them a location based on custom taxonomy.
@xp02ed, P2 works whereever Posthaste works and has media upload buttons.
