I am a user, not a programmer, but I am limping my way through customizing a site that someone else built for me. I want to have a Group Blog for my site that all members can post to and comment on. Basically a forum, but I want it to look like a blog. So I installed the Groupblog plugin and they want me to change to multi-site (which I have no idea how to do), but I am not really needing the full functionality of GroupBlog. I don’t really want to create a group and I don’t need more than one blog. I just want all members of my site to be able to post to the website blog, with limited permissions. Is Groupblog my only option?

I’m embarrassed to even be posting in here because I’m probably not going to understand your answers, but hey, I’ve limped along this far, what the hell.

Downloaded Buddy Press today (not sure what version)
My site is autoimmunepuzzle.com. I need to change the domain to SpinaBifidaNaturally.com, but I don’t know how to do that either.

For my point of view you have to do nothing special. You can use WordPress SingleSite without any group-specific plugin.

You can register a lot of users for one singular blog; some can be administrators and some authors only; and there are some other user levels (user roles):

Well, I have two problems with that. At least I think I do, but am open to suggestions. I realize that I know next to nothing about all of this.

1) I want the members to be able to post from a form on the front-end of the site, like you would in a forum. I fear that the less computer savvy ones will never be able to figure out how to go to the dashboard and post. The current forum looks like this, where people click on the big GREEN BUTTON “Create A New Post”.

2) When I give someone author permissions, it gives them authorship over some of my other plugins like book reviews and testimonials and media and stuff I don’t want them meddling with.

Any ideas?

Try this plugin if you do not want to use multisite:

Blog Categories For Groups

I haven’t tested it though, but quite a few people have used it and like it.
