    uploading presents an image a couple of pixels wide — can’t edit, can’t see it…

    group cover uploads fine

    any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve it?

    One place to look is in your browsers Javascript console and see if it’s reporting any errors.

    Did you try deactivating the other plugins and switching to a WP theme such as 2016?
