Groups Add New User not working

Running Buddypress 1.7
When I try to use the Groups Add New User function, it is not autocompleting or recognising usernames as I try to add them.
Even stranger, it worked for one user, pulled up another user’s name but got an exceeded memory error, refreshed the screen, tried again, and now it won’t recognise any usernames at all to add to groups.
Even tried from multiple browsers. Nada.
Help?
