I’ve been searching everywhere for a solution to my problem!

what i need: it’s simple – i just want to filter content/users by region on buddypress

i have created a network and made regions as subdomains i.e. ontario.example.com but im so lost as to how now to filter all content/users by their regions, i would like users to be able to switch regions and view content and users from other regions. and perhaps detect what region a user is coming from when they log in!

but that seems like such a complicated thing to do! shouldnt it be easy to filter content/users by region? every plugin that i have tried has fallen very short please help!

What you want can be accomplished many different ways but it will require coding knowlege. When you say “content” that could imply anything.

blog posts, activity, users, etc, what is the best easiest way to achieve this? or what are a few of the many ways to achieve this.

i would rather do the filtering without having to make it a multi site as it makes updating each subdomain a pain. but i have found a plugin http://buddydev.com/plugins/buddypress-multi-network/ that will seperate all content on each subdomain its not ideal as users are not free to move from one region to the next without this http://buddydev.com/plugins/join-blog-widget/.. are thier any other solutions?

Why not just use groups as a “region”, make them all private

would people still be able to make groups? is there alot of coding involved?

    are there any other alternatives?

If you change the name of groups it would affect all groups. I was suggesting changing term “groups” to “regions”. This would be the simplest. No alternative except custom coding.
