HELP! Lost members directory

  • @steve-kelsey

    Participant

I am running WP 3.1.1 and BP 1.2.8. Site ( alpha test ) is http://www.irrilium.com/SecretPlan/

Not sure how this has happened but the /members directory is no longer present on the server ( Bluehost).
The problem occured from Sunday, up untill then all was well.

Now when I try to go to a profile e.g. via the Buddypress admin bar and selecting the Profile from the drop down menu ( which generates the following url

    http://www.irrilium.com/SecretPlan/members/admin/profile/public/ ) I get a server error .

What is my best option, re install Buddypress and start again ( OUCH! many weeks of work in my free time) or is there a smart way of re instating the members directory. I am guessing the members data is lost even though the members id is still intact as are the avatars.

    Very confused

To update. The situation has got worse. The only url now working is the site root http://www.irrilium.com/SecretPlan. all other links from this page give me a 404 error.

If it’s giving a bluehost 404 error, than something is wrong with your host, not buddypress. Try contacting Bluehost to see if there are any problems or issues with them or your account.

I would start by turning off WP Super Cache, and see if that changes things. It looks like all the pages are 404-ing.

You’ll also have to go into your site’s .htaccess and remove the wp-super-cache rules. I can’t remeber if there is a setting for WP Super Cache to do this on it’s own.

    Thanks for the replies guys

    @Virtuali
bluehost can’t help other than to offer a restore from last month when everything was working

@ Barndon Allen . I tried turning off WP Super cache but that did not change anything.

I opted for a more recent restore when I know that everything was working OK but I still have the 500 error.
I looked into .htaccess but there is very little in this file. this is all it contains

    # Use PHP5 Single php.ini as default
    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5s .php

I renamed this .htaccess_old as suggested in another part of the forum but this did not cure the problem either.

I am guessing that .htaccess is part of the problem as it looks somewhat Spartan compared to others I have seen referenced in this Forum.

My last chance nuclear option is to download all the CSS and Header.php and Footer.php mods I have made and a copy of the pluggins folder and go for the month old restore….

Well WP Super Cache is not very compatible with BP sites. Now that your .htaccess has changed, try logging into the dashboard and going to settings > permalinks, then resave your permalinks settings. This will set your .htaccess to work correctly with pretty permalinks again. Hopefully, that fixes the issue.

Hi Brandon, you must never sleep!

So I have deactivated WP Super Cache and updated permalinks via dashboard> settings.
I click on Profile in the BP nav bar at the top of the page and the url shows

    http://www.irrilium.com/SecretPlan/members/admin/profile/public/

but I get a white screen, no data at all…

Bump with and update in the hope that anyone has seen this before or have any ideas.

If I turn off extended profiles in BP component admin I can access the basic profile from both the avatar link and the BP nav bat. It is only with extended profiles enable that I see the error. Could this be a directory problem?

I have rebuilt php.ini and .htaccess but this had no effect.

    Got me stumped : (
