HELP: What’s the deal with forum structures?

  • Looking to use BuddyPress for a project, but I have some misgivings about Forum Structures. BuddyPress has constructs such as Groups, Forums, and Topics, however, the implementation (bbPress) is really Groups = Forums and Forums = Topics. Where are the actual Forums? For instance, let’s say I have a group called ‘Marvel Comics’ and I want to have Forums for ‘General Discussion’, ‘Movies’ and ‘Comics’, I can’t do this in BuddyPress as it is implemented because each forum is really listed as a Topic. If I go to the main Forums tab, I can only add a Topic. Does this make sense? There should be a means to create a Group, then a bunch of categorical Forums, which then have Topics.

Has anyone encountered this scenario in their own efforts? Or am I just going crazy. As it is, the forum implementation is missing a layer, IMO.
