Hide buddypress widgets

I’m running the latest WPMU version and BP. Is there anyway to hide the buddypress widgets on user created blogs and have it only available for the root blog?

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-new-blog-defaults/ helps you tweak what’s available to sub-blog admins in admin menu

Does this only work then for new blogs created or can you configure the “default” widgets for the current blogs?
