Hiding profile tabs depending on role?

Right now I’m using the follow plug in, and I’d like to hide the “following” tab for authors, and hide the “followed by” tab for subscribers. My site relies heavily on account type separation and unfortunately that PRO plugin is still in maintenance mode, so I’ve gotten about 90% completion by finding code posted here, so I’m hoping I can get help with the last little bit.
Also, I know its a plugin, so maybe this isn’t the best place for my question, but I would think it applies to the default tabs as well.
Which leads to a sub-question.. is there anyway to hide the “View” tab when viewing others profiles? When its your own profile, it shows “View Edit Change Avatar” .. but on others, it just says “View.” Just looks out of place but I can live it
