Is there a way to hide the @ username and all text that shows up under the picture, sometimes its someone elses @ there or some message text, also how to hide/disable public message functionality so that @ is simply not being used at all on the site.

This may be good for a family website but its not good for multiple user site with people who dont particulary know each other well. There should be a way to just disable it.
