Home Page Template?

  • Using 1.6 Default Theme as a Child….

I need to create a home page template for post styles that we created (lots of if statements). Is it better to use the index.php to create a home.php file or should I create a Page for the home and create a page template then change the reading settings to that page for the home? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    PS
    1.6 ROCKS!!! :)

@fiq whether you use the index.php or page.php to create a home.php file doesn’t matter as long as you keep the container divs within bounds of the HTML structure. Plus when you use home.php, a special WP template file, you don’t need to change the reading settings at all.

That’s what I was thinking about the home.php. The one befit of using a page template is you can more easily use meta boxes, but I think I like the simplicity of the home.php better.

@fiq if you use home.php, create a blog page template as well for the blog page index http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/creating-a-blog-page-with-paging/

Good article. In my case the home is the blog page so I wouldn’t want duplicate links. But over time we may want to change that… anyway good info. I also wanted to make sure home.php worked the same in BP as it does in WP.
