How can I redirect from WP author profile to BP member profile?

I have a lot of author links that look like: … .com/author/authorname and BP has a structure of … .com/member/authorname and … .com/member/authorname/profile
How can I either:
1) use a redirect from the WP author profile page to the BP page, perhaps using .htaccess?
2) use a BP function will allow me to print out the member profile link? I have access to the code and can print out author IDs. What BP function takes the author ID and will allow me to print out a link to their profile page?
