How can I remove the group avatar from activity post updates?

Whenever I post something in a particular group, the post will have: (username) posted an update in the group (group avatar image) (group name) 11 minutes ago.
I can easily remove the group avatar by hiding the css element, but it still loads in the browser. Is there a way to remove it by adding code to the bp-custom.php or functions.php file so that it doesn’t load at all?
