How Do I activate forums

I am running buddypress 1.2.7 and have not been able to get forums to work. I went to Forum Setup and clicked to activate from an existing installation. When asked to provide the path to the bb_config.php file I pointed to the bp-forums folder in the buddypress install. I clicked the button and was told that forums were now activated. They are however not working. I get a blank page when I try to activate forums from within a group.

The bb_config.php file that I pointed to still contains the security redirect and there is no bb-config.php file at the root level of my wordpress install. I tried to create an empty bb_config.php at the root level and point to it instead and that did not work. I also pasted the php I found at http://xref.yoast.com/bbtrunk/nav.html?bb-config.php.html – but that also was fruitless.

    What am I missing?

Do not use existing installation if you do not have a standalone bbPress install.

Go to “Forums Setup”, then click on the reinstall link.
Next, click on “Set up a new bbPress installation” and follow the steps to complete forum setup.

Thank you so much. It worked.
I had done it the way you described before, but must have made a mistake somewhere along the line. When I did it this time everything went smoothly and I have created my first forum topic.
