How do i activate my buddypress pages

Hey, so i installed Buddypress on my wordpress 2.9.2 blog, and i have the default buddypress theme activated. But how do i activate my buddypress pages?

At the moment when i click on forums/ or any other feature of my buddypress is just says this page is not found. Same with Sign up page ect.
How do i activate the pages?

Set your permalinks to something other than the default.
Afterwards, make sure that a .htaccess file is written in your WP root directory.

How do i do that? and what is .htaccess file?

Get to this screen in your WP admin panel:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Permalinks_SubPanel

Set it to “Day and Name”. Save. Check your BP pages and see if they work.

Don’t worry about the .htaccess file for now.
