How to change required fields on registration form

I’ve seen the documentation that says you need to go to the language folder https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/customizing/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

I am using WordPress Multisite and I cannot see a /plugins/buddypress/bp-languages already in the plugin folder. Is this somthing I should add manually? I can see it in the orinial file I downloaded but not on the live version.

Try explaining what exactly your are trying to do here as the title can be read a few ways.

I’m trying to change the required text after form fields from (required) to (*).

So it’s not necessarily the language I want to change but that is how the instructions in the codex stated you needed to edit the bp-languages folder to change the required text after fields. When I went looking for that file in the plugins folder I noticed it was missing from the plugin but it was in the original plugin folder I downloaded.

I was unsure if I just added the bp-languages folder and changed the required text as mentioned in the codex whether it would work or not.
