how to get retina-quality avatars?

does anyone know how to get retina-quality (144ppi) avatars? i was able to get cover images at the higher resolution by changing $edit_args[‘max_w’] and $edit_args[‘max_h’] in class-bp-attachment-cover-image.php, but haven’t been able to get anything to work with avatars. redefining the width and height constants for avatars and avatar thumbnails doubles the size of the images but not the resolution. nothing else i try gets the images above those constant dimensions. as far as i can tell, the BP_AVATAR_ORIGINAL_MAX_WIDTH constant impacts nothing; BP_AVATAR_FULL_WIDTH is applied no matter what i try.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran into this recently. I’m not sure what we need to do – I think we need to change the cropping logic, and also end up with a bunch more versions of the avatars.

I’m not sure when we might get to improving on avatars in this way.
